Romans 5:8
Why do you do what you do in every moment of your day? What motivates you? Why do you try your best? Have you ever wondered? Really, deeply contemplated each action? This past week after reading a book, I really started thinking about it.
I was having a discussion with my husband about his golf game and how he played. He had an especially great game. And then he said, "You know it doesn't really matter to anyone else. No one really cares." And so we got into a discussion and he asked me why I have done some things I've done, participated in certain activities, try hard to succeed and improve myself, and struggle with it.
And bottom line..pretty heavy, here...to be completely honest, to prove I'm worthy...ouch! When it really comes down to it. Seems that's what many try to do, whether it's win an award, reach a milestone or keep pushing harder once we've achieved our goal. And once we've achieved our goal, we realize we must keep going to continue proving ourselves. Yes, a vision is incredibly valuable to have a focus, but I think it's important to know why we have that vision as well.
Here's what's amazing...we don't have to do anything to prove our worth in God's eyes. He created us. We don't have to do anything to receive that love. He loved us while we were still sinners. It doesn't say he loved us after we asked for forgiveness or after we served him. He loved us while we were sinners. While we messed up. While we were doing things that He wasn't too fond of. Yet He loved us. No exceptions.
Wouldn't it be fabulous to really truly understand that love in every moment? Let's hold up our actions to the light of God and ask, am I doing this to prove I am important, worthy, or to receive approval from others? Or am I doing this because I love to do it and it fulfills me enough and I know God loves me for me? Because God made me. He's the one that gets to say who I am.
If you haven't read Romans 5 in a while, you might want to take a moment just to absorb it. It's a great outline of what God has done for us, to show His love.
So how about it... let's listen to Him this week and focus on our worth only in God's eyes. May we find our worthiness through God and no one else. God bless you this week and every day after as you truly find your identity in the light of God.
