Why do we like a good fairy tale? A happy ending. Good wins over evil and the girl gets her Prince Charming. We want it, but in reality, it never seems to work that way.
Life is certainly not even close to a fairy tale..
And in light of all of the recent tragedies, it's even more obvious we will not find or live a fairy tale here on earth.
Instead of peace, there seem to be protests & tragedies. Instead of honest leaders, there are sinners and corruption. Instead of truly healthy marriages, there is frustration, separation & divorce. And speaking of health, there is a plethora of disease and sickness.
It is incredibly difficult to find peace and comfort over fear & worry, most days. We want good to win over evil, yet Satan continues to play games with our minds. He knows exactly what our weaknesses are and all he has to do is give us that seed of doubt and we run with it, or I know I tend to far too often...
I think about what's happening in our world right now with the devastating loss of lives, police officers and black men. The injustice and the utter sadness. And I see pain in so many faces. We have 2 people running for president that so many of us question. Which is the lesser of 2 evils and how will we get through these next 4 years? It has certainly been difficult these last 8 years.
But history teaches us valuable lessons: there has never been a time of complete peace. And there has never been a human leader without sin, including Adam, Moses, Noah, Abraham or David and the list goes on. Everyone is looking for that perfect leader, the perfect marriage and the win of good over evil.
And I think there's a reason why... Because the One and ONLY has set that in our hearts. We desperately yearn for it because God planted that seed. And the great news is that with Jesus everything does work out for the best. He defeated Satan on the cross and He even wants us to give Him our burdens. He is the only perfect leader we have ever had, who has spoken with authority and truth, kindness and love. He gave His LIFE for our sins by way of the cross so that we could be with Him forever in Heaven. We don't have to earn His love. He has given it freely to all of us.
Funny, kind of sounds like a real fairy tale to me. Maybe that's why we like them. Because something in our soul tells us there's more. And that peace He offers will carry us until our last breath; when we invite Jesus into our lives and spend time getting to know Him and His desires for our life. We were not meant for this world alone... God set eternity in our hearts because He knew there was so much more waiting for us...Peace, love, beauty AND "He will wipe every tear from our eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." Revelation 21:4. He promises that to us. What a beautiful gift He has given all of us.
May God bless you this week and always as you focus on Jesus, our one true and perfect Savior (far better than a Prince Charming) ... the best fairy tale of all... or should I say perfect story of all!
