Conflict has always been difficult for me. And as I get older, it isn't getting any easier. I really don't like it when 2 parties have 2 different perspectives and one or both parties cannot see the other side.
This past month has been extremely challenging. I've questioned myself, my daughter, and all involved parties in a conflict.
When it is a matter of a child and adult, the adult is supposed to find some good in a child. Not try to make themselves look better or not try to put themselves in someone else's shoes.
I honestly don't want to dislike someone just because they can't look at something and see a different perspective than theirs. I want to believe that we all have greatness within us and we are all connected for the greater good. I want to see the good in everyone and to know that somewhere there is a willingness to make things right. Compromise not win.
God made us. We are ALL fearfully and wonderfully made, not just some of us, right?
When there is a problem, I like to look at it as a way for two people to honestly and humbly look at themselves, admit mistakes, and find a mutual solution.
When people are involved in problems, though, things can get messy.
As I was dealing with this conflict I prayed before the meeting hoping that it would go well. As the meeting ended, I questioned everything that happened. I discovered that conflict will not always be resolved well. And even though I didn't entirely feel God's presence, I was calmer than expected and as kind as I felt that I could be. And that got me thinking, pretty crazy huh?! Looking back I realized how important it is that we walk with God, especially when we struggle with conflict. Instead of trying to solve it on our own it's even more crucial to call on our Lord for support.
When God gets involved, powerful things can happen.
I recently came across this very powerful verse:
You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you. 2 Chronicles 20:17
And this one also...
The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still." Exodus 14:14
I don't think this is about stepping back and doing nothing. I think it's about not trying to do this all on my own. We have the most powerful, compassionate, wise, loving, and trustworthy advocate who wants to help us through everything. So why not? Maybe these are not my battles to fight. Maybe God is using this conflict to ask Him for help so that He can carry my burden for me. And He says He wants to. We cannot do this life all on our own especially when we are dealing with people who either do not have a sincere heart or cannot put themselves in someone else's shoes.
Whatever trial you are going through now or in the future may you lean into God and trust in His love for you. and know that He will fight your battles. You need only be still and listen.
God bless you.
