Scripture Memory Verse Challenge - Week #5
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
Well I'm continuing this journey even though the challenge by Max Lucado has ended. I realized how helpful it may be to focus on just one verse weekly. So here goes...
This week this verse was really hard for me to focus on and "feel." I guess some weeks are like that. Again hard things happen each and every day, especially when you hear of someone losing a friend or family member. And then things just seem to distract our attention.
A few weeks ago I started a class called Immunity to Change. The focus is on helping to change one thing that will make us more effective in life, at work, at home, or both. The premise is to focus on that goal. To list the worries we have of pursuing it and our hidden commitments that stop of from that goal. And then to think of our big assumptions that really immobilize us from moving forward. Trying to make that as short of a description as possible.
And I realized that my big assumption interferes with my worth and value in God as well as my hope in him. It was a huge eye opener but also made me feel silly to even think it. Because rationally, I know it's not true but somewhere in my skin and heart I've allowed that perception to be true on some level. My big assumtion is that if I'm not effective in what I say then I will look stupid and people will not like me. And if people do not like me I have no value.
Wow! That was hard to say and worse yet, admit to all of my friends. However after putting it into words finally I came to the conclusion after reading God's word, that my value only comes through him. And as the verse says, if I trust in Him, I will overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. So even though I know it, by actually putting it into words, I have learned a valuable lesson. That because God brought us into this world, He values us more than we can imagine and He gives us gifts to share with others. We don't have to do anything to deserve them because He loves and cares about us unconditionally. What a beautiful gift that is.
If you read this far, and even if you didn't, God bless you this week as you find your value in Him.
