Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
So I've taken a little break from the memory verse challenge. I didn't realize how difficult it would be to keep going. But after rereading several posts, I realized how helpful it was for me to see where I was and where I am going. Kind of like a diary and a journey. I will not deny that life can be challenging and I felt even more challenges during these weeks. Not sure if I was being tested but I do realize that there is power in the word and if we try to separate ourselves from it, we go down a steep slope into not such a great place. As I watched the movie, Miracles from Heaven, I was awed by such a great line that I will paraphrase. The preacher when asked why God would let something bad happen, said that he had tried both ways when going through hard times, away from God and towards God. And he decided that life was much better with God than without. I certainly agree to that.
Unfortunately, I still struggle with understanding and knowing how much God loves me. At times I think I get it and then times I just don't. Not sure if any of you ever have that issue but I keep praying to find and understand that love. And lo and behold, this verse came to me. And then I realized something. The words that God gives us are so incredibly powerful. And if we learn them, we can turn those unkind words we say to ourselves into such powerful reminders from God.
So here's my aha moment:
If God = love and this verse is what love is, then this is how God loves me. Wow! I "love" it.
God always protects.
God always perseveres.
God always hopes.
God always trusts.
God is not proud.
God does not boast.
God does not dishonor others.
God does not envy.
God does not delight in evil.
God keeps no record of wrongs.
God rejoices in the truth.
God is not easily angered.
God is not self-seeking.
God is patient.
God is kind.
God never fails.
I have an idea that we humans need more than one word as a definition of love, since sometimes it is hard to grasp. How cool is this that God always protects me and you and that He never fails us. This I will hold onto always. I'm working hard to memorize this so when I question God's love for me, I can remember all of these special ways He does love each and every one of us. He loves us like no human can. Even though we will all fail to give others what they need, God will never fail us and gives us everything we need. Amen.
And may God bless you and keep you this week as you discover His deep love for you.
