2 Corinthians 10:5
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
Does your mind ever wander? Do you find yourself worrying about something before you even notice you are really letting your mind unravel? I can't even tell you how often I do it, which is kind of embarrassing to share.
Those doubts and comparison of others take my thoughts to some crazy places sometimes. Before I even notice it is happening. Just the other day, I noticed myself doing it again. I was working out and comparing myself to everyone else on one of the drills that we were doing. And lo and behold, I got down on myself. And then I thought, wait a second, I'm here working out. That's a good thing, right? I should be proud of myself for that. And more importantly, I should take those negative thoughts and put them in light of what God would think and how He views me and of course, all of us.
It says in Psalms that He knit us together in our mother's womb. He knew He wanted us before we were even born. We have a special place in this world, so why would He ever be disappointed in us. He loves us so much that He sent His son to die for us.
As a matter of fact, I was just reading an article on emotional intelligence. I will share the link below. But basically, the article stated that the greatest factor of success, is a high emotional IQ. And a high emotional IQ helps you deal with problems in a more effective way. And then I realized that God did give us a better way to handle all of our problems. He told us to take our thoughts captive and hold them up to Him.
So that got me thinking how our brain works. And that led me to read an article on the brain and how it grows and makes connections when we learn something. Our amazing God, who created us, and our unbelievable brain, makes it possible for us to learn new things. So it is possible to change the way we behave and think.
And the best way to make that happen is to take every thought, worry, concern, or disappointment to God. Hold it up to His standards for us, and remind ourselves that God is love. And He is bigger than any problem we will ever have. And before we begin to worry about it, if we take it to Him first, how much more can He accomplish for us than we ever can for ourselves.
Which goes back to the last verse, "if you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit."
I don't know about you, but I think that my days can only get better if I would first and foremost take every thought to God and ask Him to help me through anything that I am doing.
God bless you this week as you take your wandering thoughts captive and make them obedient to Christ.
